Lila was a professional dancer at the Tivoli Theatre in Melbourne and had toured overseas with the company. She eventually hung up her shoes to get married and raise a family of 2 daughters. Naturally she joined her 2 daughters up to the local dance school when the opportunity arose to take over that school as the teacher was moving interstate.
Lila started the Wells School of Dance in 1973 at a church hall in Sandringham, then moving to Highett and now to our new home for the school in Cheltenham. Lila became a member of the Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing CSTD, and studied the syllabi extensively and trained to improve her knowledge to pass on to her students.
Lila's 2 daughters Vikki and Lisa have taken over the reins of the school with the help of granddaughter Taylah. Lila still attends classes each week keeping a watchful eye over everything at 86 years young.
CSTD examinations can be taken by students although they are not compulsory. Our end of year concert is always a highlight for the students to perform and show there talents to fam and friends. This is held at the beautiful Shirley Burke Theatre in Parkdale. We aim to put on an entertaining concert with lots of variety.
The Wells School of Dance is proud to be able to call itself one of the longest running schools in Melbourne. We have taught and mentored 1000’s of students and 3 generations of families to dance. Many of our students been successful in becoming professional dancers in stage shows, cruise ship contracts, and shows in UK/Europe Asia and various other countries around the world.
